I submitted two grant applications today, and if you could peer inside my body you would see that my soul is transforming from a worker bee into a sloth. I had a long to-do list for the day, and after this dryer cycle finishes I will be done with all ten tasks. I'm looking forward to my sloth nap.
Both applications were actually fully written and ready to go this morning when I woke up. All I needed to do was a last round of proofreading before assembling the documents into PDF "packets". I'm always surprised by how long a thorough copyediting of grant materials can take. Or, rather, it makes evident how much of the reading I do on a day-to-day basis resembles skimming more than close reading.
The next two grant applications on my plate are not due until later this month, but I need to get cracking on those before heading out on my research trip next week. I will be relieved to clear grants off my plate for a while, but I do enjoy the variety of switching between my dissertation and writing/editing proposals. Having both going on at once keeps each task fresh.
