My goals for 5776:

Write 3 dissertation chapters.
Get an article out for review.
Visit a new place. Preferably a tropical island.

The beginning of the new academic year knocked my feet out from under me.. After a year of fellowship, I had forgotten the volume of email that you accrue as a full time graduate student and Teaching Assistant. I did succeed, however, in finishing a draft of the second chapter of my dissertation--I sent it off to my advisors on Saturday afternoon, just in time to celebrate Rosh Hashanah. I'm taking a two week vacation from writing, mostly so I can catch up on research-related tasks like transcribing oral history interviews and adding archival photos to my database, but I will also resume blogging during this time "off"! Look out for some new posts about the dissertation and some "lessons learned" from writing chapter 2.
